Lucy

Picture
Lucy is a novel told in prose poems, about a young woman living with post-traumatic stress disorder. She explores the parameters of what it means to live, versus what it means to merely survive. This novel is told through memory, flashbacks, dreams, and scenes, to mirror the way we actually live and perceive our lives. Lucy gives a personal account of one woman’s dark, quirky, sometimes humorous life, with the aspiration to be illuminating. The book explores how we tell our stories and how we articulate ourselves into being. Our lives have a definite inadequacy of language and yet it seems to be the only way to narrate our lives. The novel explores how we try to define ourselves in a wonderfully unstable, unpredictable world. In Lucy’s world, where danger seems to be lurking everywhere and everyone is capable of causing her bodily harm, how is she to remain sane, heal herself, and be open to love?

Molly Kat lives in the woods in an intentional community in North Carolina. She likes exploring abandoned buildings, walking the railroad tracks and climbing trees. Geeking out on the abilities and inabilities of words excites her. She is drawn to extremities, loves to watch things burn and gives the best hugs. She earned her Masters at Binghamton University, where she served as poetry editor for Harpur Palate. Her work has been published by Foothill, Toad the Journal, H_NGM_N and other online and print journals, and she is a contributor for selfiesinink.com.
